Want to become a foster volunteer?
Time
- Are you able to devote the required time daily to your foster animals? (See chart below)
- Are you able to bring foster animals for vaccinations and wellness exams every 2-3 Weeks?
- Are you able to take a new litter of kittens for their 1 month/1lb vaccine and exams to Battle Creek?
- Are you able to contact the foster coordinator director or bring foster animals to the our vet in case of an emergency?
Space
- Are you able to separate fosters animals from your household pets for 7-10 days to protect them from illness (they could be incubating illnesses that are contagious to you or your pets.) and allow for proper adjustment period?
- Are you able to handle cleaning procedures such as washing hands after every encounter and cleaning/ disinfecting the kitten’s quarters routinely?
- Are you able to address any potential home damage (carpets, clothing, and furniture) associated with animals?
Care
- Are you prepared to handle sickness or possible death of your foster animal?
- Are you able to emotionally handle letting go of the foster animal after becoming attached once their foster period is over?
- Are you able to manage the potential of foster animals carrying illness that could affect your household animals?
Daily Foster Time Commitments
Sick 2-3 hours
Weaned 3-6 hours
Injured 2-3 hours
Bottle Babies 8-12 hours
Under-Socialized 2-4 hours
Nursing Moms/Kittens 3-5 hours
